Introducing Local Pass

Victoria is small enough that you probably know at least one person who works at a restaurant you order from, or grows something on a farm you've never visited, or drives for a living and knows your street without checking the map. That's not true of most cities anymore, and it's not something we wanted to lose by building an app.

Local Pass is a food delivery, marketplace, and rides service made for Vancouver Island, starting in Victoria. You can order dinner from a restaurant nearby, get groceries and produce from farms and shops around the Island, and book a ride, all from the same account.

What makes it worth building is less about the app and more about who's on it: the person who opens the restaurant at 6am to start the dough, a farm in the Cowichan Valley that's been supplying Island kitchens for years, the driver who's also somebody's neighbour. An app is just the thing that connects you to them a little more easily.

We're starting this blog to tell some of those stories properly: who's cooking, who's growing, who's driving, and why they're worth knowing.
