Why Local Pass

Made for butcher shops, delis and fish markets

Your shop isn’t an afterthought here

Uber Eats and DoorDash were built around restaurants, and online grocery services around large retailers. Local Pass began with independent food shops in mind — the butcher, the deli and the fish counter among them.

Built in Victoria, for Island food

Local Pass is based in Victoria, and only Vancouver Island businesses sell on it. The people who shop here come for local food, which is exactly what a neighbourhood butcher, deli or fishmonger sells.

Beside the counter, not instead of it

Local Pass sits alongside the Saturday queue, the phoned-in orders and the chefs you already cut for. There’s no exclusivity or minimum to sign up to, so none of them has to change.

FAQ

What butchers, delis and fishmongers ask first

Can a butcher shop sell meat online by weight with Local Pass?

Yes. The customer’s card is held when they order on Local Pass; as you pack, you weigh each cut on your own scale and key in the price it shows, and that’s what they’re charged. There’s no deposit to take and no difference to refund.

What can a butcher, deli or fish shop sell on Local Pass?

Beef, pork, lamb, poultry and game, from single cuts to sausages, bacon and ham; fresh, frozen or smoked fish and shellfish; cheese, pickles and ready meals. Bones and raw pet food have their own place on the marketplace too.

Which side of Local Pass suits a deli?

It depends on what you sell. Sliced meats, cheese and anything priced by weight suit an Island Food Market storefront; sandwiches and hot food made to order suit a restaurant page with a menu.

Can customers ask about a cut before they order?

Yes. Customers can message your shop in chat on Local Pass, so questions about thickness, bone-in or boneless, or a cut you don’t usually carry come straight to you.

Can I pause online orders during the holiday rush?

Yes. When the counter is flat out — the week before Christmas, say — switch the store to Closed in your dashboard. Online orders pause until you reopen, and nothing in your catalogue is lost.
